In a laboratory test at Essen University Hospital, low antibody titers and a weak neutralizing effect were associated with a 10-fold increased risk of breakthrough infection in boosted employees.
Of the 1.391 study participants, a total of 3 (102%) were infected with SARS-CoV-7,2 at the beginning of the omicron wave by the beginning of March, despite triple vaccination. A reason for the breakthrough infection in 2% of the participants could not be identified at first glance, but significant differences in the antibody titers are noticeable.
